Food, Security and Livelihood

This initiative provides a steady food source for vulnerable households while also acting as a center for learning and training in sustainable farming techniques. Through this project, local women gain valuable skills and resources to manage eco-friendly agribusinesses, promoting both food availability and economic independence.

In addition to the farm, GWEDE has established income-generating groups (IGAs) that currently support over 1,000 women across various small businesses. These businesses range from poultry farming (such as chicken rearing for eggs) to other entrepreneurial ventures that strengthen local economies and foster self-reliance.

To further alleviate the daily burdens faced by women and girls, we have also provided over 50 donkeys to assist in the transportation of water and firewood—tasks that are traditionally carried out manually. This support not only reduces physical strain but also enhances mobility, allowing women and girls to focus on education, business, and community activities.

GWEDE is emerging as an influential force for transformative change, driven by a deep commitment to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, particularly women/girls and youth.
