Women-led. Community-rooted. Building a More Prosperous Ethiopia.
GWEDE is a national, women-led civil society organization advancing the rights, dignity, resilience, and economic empowerment of women, girls, youth, and vulnerable communities across Ethiopia with a particular focus on pastoralist and underserved areas.
We work where the need is greatest and the distance to services is longest: in drought-affected rangelands, in conflict-affected border areas, and in displacement sites. And we work to make lasting change actually happen through the leadership, knowledge, and priorities of the communities themselves.

Why GWEDE

GWEDE exists to change that. As a women-led, community-rooted organization grounded in the communities we serve, we bring cultural understanding, trusted relationships, and a deep commitment to locally led change. We work alongside women, youth, and communities to turn vulnerability into resilience, strengthen local leadership,
