Empowering Women for a Better Future: The Mission of GWEDE

 / November 28,2024

In today’s interconnected world, the fight for gender equality remains a cornerstone of sustainable development. Global Women Empowerment Development, Ethiopia (GWEDE) is at the forefront of this movement, working tirelessly to uplift marginalized communities, particularly women, girls, and youth, in Ethiopia’s pastoral regions.

Who We Are: A Vision Rooted in Change

Established in 2022, GWEDE envisions a future where women and girls rise as leaders and champions of positive change. Our mission is to develop sustainable solutions that improve the livelihoods and well-being of women and girls while addressing Ethiopia’s pressing development challenges. With a focus on the Borana and Dawa zones in Oromia and Somali regional states, we are dedicated to expanding our impact across Ethiopia.

The Leadership Behind GWEDE

At the heart of GWEDE is a leadership team composed of pastoral women who understand the unique challenges faced by their communities. Guided by our Executive Director—an experienced humanitarian with over 20 years of experience working with international and local NGOs—GWEDE combines grassroots insights with professional expertise to deliver transformative programs.

Our Core Values

GWEDE is built on six core values: integrity, inclusivity, community-centered solutions, sustainability, innovation, and respect. These values drive everything we do, ensuring that our interventions are locally relevant, culturally sensitive, and impactful.

Our Call to Action

At GWEDE, we believe in the power of collaboration. We invite donors, stakeholders, and like-minded organizations to join us in creating a future where women and girls can lead their communities toward social and economic progress. Together, we can make gender equality a reality in Ethiopia.
