Access to healthcare remains a critical challenge in Ethiopia’s pastoral regions, where maternal mortality, gender-based violence, and low immunization rates persist. Global Women Empowerment Development, Ethiopia (GWEDE) is addressing these issues through innovative health programs designed to improve the lives of women and children.

Tackling Health Challenges

Health disparities in pastoral communities are stark. Women often lack access to skilled birth attendants, and harmful practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage remain prevalent. GWEDE is committed to changing this through sustainable, community-centered health interventions.

Our Health Programs

Our health initiatives focus on improving maternal and child health by working closely with local health facilities, community health workers, and faith leaders. Key interventions include:

  • Mobile health services to reach remote areas.
  • Promoting skilled deliveries and ante-/post-natal care.
  • Raising awareness about child spacing, nutrition, and disease prevention.
  • Addressing gender-based violence through education and advocacy.

The Impact of Our Efforts

Through these programs, GWEDE has significantly increased awareness about skilled birth attendants, expanded immunization coverage, and reduced incidents of gender-based violence in the Borana and Dawa zones. Our work ensures that women and children in pastoral communities have access to the healthcare they need.

Looking Ahead

At GWEDE, we believe that every woman and child deserves access to quality healthcare. By partnering with us, you can help make this vision a reality. Visit www.gwede.org to learn more about our health programs and how you can support them.
